PRIME Training Funding

Funding is available to help rural and remote clinicians train for PRIME, so communities a long way from hospital have skilled emergency cover close to home. It is delivered in partnership with Hato Hone St John and supports a stronger, more sustainable PRIME workforce.

Who it is for
GPs and nurses working in eligible rural and remote communities who hold a PRIME role, or want to take one up. The aim is to remove the cost and travel barriers that currently mean many clinicians self-fund this training.

The rules, in short:

• You must work in an eligible rural or remote setting and hold, or intend to take up, a PRIME role.

• The training is PRIME training delivered through Hato Hone St John, as part of the national expansion of PRIME.

• Funding covers course fees, backfill or locum cover, and travel and accommodation where distance makes that necessary.

• Funding is not automatic. Applications are checked against eligibility first, then prioritised on an equity basis if demand is greater than the budget, with priority where need is greatest.

How much you can apply for
Funding is available up to $10,000 per person. There is no set minimum: funding is paid against actual costs up to that cap, so you apply for what you need. Because the initial course runs over several days, locum cover is often the largest part of a claim.
